Statement earrings were one of the biggest fine jewelry trends of 2018. The shoulder skimming style was a major hit with A-list celebrities who donned this look to major red carpet events, fashion shows and parties. Statement earrings’ incorporate various styles. Long drop and chandelier style earrings were very popular this year, as were abstract avant garde geometrical designs. Statement earrings’ ability to elevate any look from basic to show stopping has played a big part in its popularity.

A drop style earring when worn correctly can elongate a person’s face, making  them appear more slender. Due to its grandiose charm, big chandelier style earrings are best paired with more minimalist pieces to balance the look. Hoops can be styled up or down to go with casual and formal looks. Trend Spotting: Statement Earrings

Statement earrings were spotted on celebrities throughout the year and were a big success during awards season. From the Cannes Film Festival to Grammys, shoulder scraping danglers were a hot favourite in 2018.

Celebrities such as Julianna Moore, Penelope Cruz and Cate Blanchett were spotted wearing stunning long earrings to the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival this year. Cate Blanchett’s bold and colourful orchid earrings were designed by Chopard.

The royals seemed to have caught on to the trend as well. Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were seen dripping in diamonds for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday dinner. Their earrings garnered a lot of media attention. Kate sported a heavy pearl drop design, while Meghan opted for a dramatic multi-drop citrine design.

The Golden Globe Awards once again saw A-list celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Gillian Anderson and Mary J Blige donning statement earrings. Oprah beautifully balanced the earring-heavy look by opting to go without a necklace.

 The Grammy Awards Ceremony for 2018 saw celebs donning super long danglers in various designs. While some went for a more traditional route, Beyonce stunned in her 70-carat geometrically shaped earrings.

The 70th Primetime Emmy awards too was ruled by this trend with the likes of Rachel Brosnan and Emilia Clarke opting for gorgeous drop earrings. Scarlett Johansson looked ethereal wearing a pair of sleek chandelier diamond earrings set in 18K white gold.

This trend was not just limited to award shows but dominated most events, be it Gigi Hadid on the runway for Ralph Lauren or Kendall Jenner wearing Tiffany and Co.’s  Paper Flower diamond danglers to the Met Gala. It is safe to say 2018 was the year of statement earrings.
